Sugar Ray Robinson is a former professional boxer. He was born as Walker Smith Jr. in Ailey, Georgia. He was frequently regarded by sports reviews as greatest boxer of all time. Robinson was listed at 5 ft. 11 in. and a reach of 72 and ½ inches. He was listed in four weight classes; the lightweight, welterweight, middleweight and the light heavyweight divisions. During his childhood, Robinson idolized Henry Armstrong and Henry Louise. Before becoming a pro boxer, then Walker Smith Jr. entered the amateurs at the age of 16. He received his name when he bypassed the Amateur Athletic Union's age restriction by borrowing a card from a friend of his named Ray Robinson. During his amateur career, Robinson had a record of 85 wins and no defeat, 65 of those victories came by way of knockout, with 40 of them nailing his opponents in the very first round. Robinson made his professional debut in professional boxing as a lightweight on October 4, 1940 where he won a victory via second round knockout over Joe Echavarria. Before the end of 1940, Robinson was booked for five more fight, four of which were won by knockouts. A year after, in 1941, Robinson came out victorious to defeat Sammy Angott. By 1946, Robinson left the lightweight division and went up in several weight classes. After his retirement, Robinson had a total of 200 fights, 173 of which are victories with 108 came by way of knockout, with 19 losses and 6 draws. Sugar Ray Robinson died on April 12, 1989 at the age of 67.
