Stu Voigt was born on August 12, 1948 in the Westmorland district of Madison, Wisconsin. An all around athlete in high school, Voigt was an all- state running back and a track and field standout in Madison West High School. He set a state record of 66 feet 7 inches in 1966 for shut put and was not broken until 2005. He was given a football scholarship from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and became a star halfback and tight end in some of the worst lineup by the Badgers in football history, winning only three games from 1967 to 1969. Voigt was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the tenth round of the 1970 NFL Draft where he was ranked as 260th overall. He retired after the 1980 season and played in three Super Bowl games during his eleven year career. After retirement, he was still active in football by working as a color commentator on Vikings radio broadcast from 1981 to 1989. Currently, he serves as the Chairman of the Board of First Commercial Bank in Bloomington, Minnesota. In 2005, Voigt's name appeared on Wisconsin High School's track news when Steve Marcelle of Green Bay Preble broke his shot put record.
