Stojko Vrankovic is a retired Croatian professional basketball player. He was born in Drnis, Socialist Republic of Croatia. Vrankovic played as center for three teams in the National Basketball Association; the Boston Celtics, Minnesota Timberwolves and the Los Angeles Clippers . Vrankovic also played for several teams in the Euroleague Basketball; KK Zadar, Aris, Panathinaikos and Fotitudo Bologna. Vrankovic is 7 ft. 2 in. and 260 lbs. Vrankovic was prominent as a shot blocker, though he made a modest impact during his career in the NBA, playing for a few minutes and a low scoring average, he did however have a big impact during his European career especially playing for Greek team Panathinaikos. In 1996, Vrankovic and his then teammate, Dominique Wilkins , lead Panathinaikos to a Euroleague Final Four Championship. Vrankovic's defensive assistance was indeed vital, namely his block of Zeljko Rebraca during buzzer in their third game against Benetton Treviso. Vrankovic's noteworthy achievements during his European career were earning the silver medal for Basketball Tournament with the Yugoslavia national basketball team that was held in Seoul, South Korea during the 1988 Seoul Olympics. But the most memorable was winning the silver medal in the men's final against the U. S. A. Dream Team in the 1992 Barcelona Olympic with his Croatia national team.
