Steven Roy Howe was a former player in the Major League Baseball who played with the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Born on March 10, 1958, he hailed from Pontiac, Michigan and played college baseball t University of Michigan. He was a two-time All-Big Ten selection while in the said university. He made his Major League Baseball debut in 1980 when he was 22 years old. He was signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers and appeared in the major league for the first time on April 11, 1980. With the Dodgers, he was awarded the National League Rookie of the Year award and was second among four Dodgers who were named to such award. Other teammates who were given the recognition were Rick Sutcliffe, Steve Sax and Fernando Valenzuela. He helped the Los Angeles Dodgers win the 1981 World Series finals against the New York Yankees. After his stint with the Dodgers, he pitched for the Minnesota Twins and the Texas Rangers and then signed with the New York Yankees. However, his career was affected by a lot of substance abuse issues he was involved in and was banned to play baseball in 1922 because of his unlikely deeds. He appealed the suspension and was luckily heard by the officials and signed with the New York Yankees again. He played his final season with the Yankees in 1994 where he recorded 15 saves and 1.80 earned run average.
