Peter Edward Rose is a retired Major League Baseball player and manager from Cincinnati, Ohio. He performed well in the amateur leagues and was able to join the Cincinnati Reds in 1960. Rose got the chance to show off his skills in the majors in a game against the Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees all during spring training. His first game in the major leagues is on April 8, 1963 in a win against the Pittsburgh Pirates . He won the National League Rookie of the Year award before going to active duty. He then returned to the major leagues and in a game against the Houston Astros on April 23, 1964 played a major role in the Reds' win. He made it to 17 All- Stars despite inevitable injuries and lapses in performance. He was part of the Reds team that won the National League Championship Series in 1973 against the New York Mets, and was also part of the 70s Reds that were dubbed as the Big Red Machine. He has 3 World Series titles in his win column; one in 1975 against the Boston Red Sox, another in 1976 against the New York Yankees, and one in 1980 against the Kansas City Royals when he was with the Philadelphia Phillies. He also played for the Montreal Expos before returning to the Reds and eventually retiring. Upon retirement, he managed the Reds from 1984 to 1989. His lifetime batting average record is .303, with 4,256 hits, 160 home runs, and 1,314 runs batted in 3,562 games played.
