Rudy Gay is a professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association. He is currently the small forward for the Memphis Grizzlies. Gay started playing basketball at the age of 12. He participated in Baltimore AAU games. At 14, he was playing in the Cecil-Kirk AAU program. He attended Eastern Technical High School and later Archbishop Spalding High School. Gay became the Washington Post All Met Basketball Player of the Year and an All-American. Gay attended the University of Connecticut and earned the 2005 Big East Conference Freshman of the Year Award. During his sophomore year in UCONN, he was able to post an average of 11.4 ppg, 5.4 rpg and 1.5 apg. He entered the 2006 NBA Draft and was selected by the Houston Rockets. He was the eighth overall pick. The Memphis Grizzlies struck a deal with Houston for Gay's rights. During his first season in the NBA, Gay was able to average 10.8 ppg. In his second year, he doubled his stats to come up with a 20.1 ppg and 6.2 rpg average. His best game was in a December 2009 match against the Miami Heat when he scored 41 points.
