Roy Hinson is a former professional basketball player and played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Jersey Nets. Hinson, who is from Trenton, New Jersey, went to Rutgers University where he played college basketball. During his first season in Rutgers, Hinson was able to record a decent 9.7 points per game average but significantly improved during the three remaining seasons. Hinson was able to record a 12.0, 12.5 and then 16.6 average ppg during his sophomore, junior and senior seasons in Rutgers. After playing four years for Rutgers, Hinson became eligible to enter the 1983 NBA draft and was made a first round pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers. As a forward-center, Hinson had a decent rookie year and was able to come up with an average of 5.5 ppg after appearing in a total of 80 games and starting in 61 of those for that season. Hinson was able to up his game during the 1985 season with a 19.6 average ppg and starting in all 82 games. However, he was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Brad Daugherty. All throughout his stay in the NBA, Hinson was able to maintain his stats. Hinson announced his retirement after the 1990 season.
