Roy Hartsfield is a retired professional baseball player in the MLB. Born in Chattahoochee, Georgia he served as the second baseman for the Boston Braves and then became the first manager of the Toronto Blue Jays after his retirement as a player. In 1948, Hartsfield was selected by the Boston Braves during the minor league draft. Hartsfield played for three seasons in the MLB and ranked fourth in the league for putouts as a second baseman during the 1951 season. He also ranked fifth when it came to fielding percentages as a second baseman in the same season. For the three seasons that he played for the Boston Braves, Hartsfield was able to come up with an average of .273 BA, a .959 fielding percentage and hit a total of 13 homeruns. After the 1952 season, Hartsfield was traded to the Brooklyn Dodgers where he played for its minor league affiliates. Hartsfield went on to play for 19 seasons for the Dodgers organization. Hartsfield started to manage teams in the late 1950s. His first stint as manager was with the St. Paul Saints of the AA. He also had much success with the Spokane Indians and the Hawaii Islanders of the Pacific Coast League.
