Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 20, 1965, Rich Gannon is a former football quarterback. He has played for the Oakland Raiders in the National Football League. Gannon had studied at Saint Joseph's Preparatory where he was able to win three varsity letters in football and crew and twice in basketball. He then decided to pursue his studies at the University of Delaware and he became the first player of the university who was able to go to the Super Bowl. It was the New England Patriots which drafted him during the fourth round of the National Football League Draft in 1998. Gannon did not want to be the team's defensive back which the team envisioned him to play that is why the team has decided to trade him to the Minnesota Vikings. In 1990, he became the starting quarterback of the Vikings where he replaced Wade Wilson. He decided to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1995 where he served as a backup to Steve Bono for two challenging years. Gannon was a free agent when he signed with the Oakland Raiders on February 1999. He had won the Pro Bowl Most Valuable Player award in the years 2001 and 2002. Gannon also received the National Football League Most Valuable Player award when he threw for 4,689 yards and 26 blazing touchdowns.
