Head basketball coach, Red Auerbach is also a front office executive for the Boston Celtics of the NBA. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, USA on September 20, 1917. His real name is Arnold Jacob Auerbach. He had studied at Seth Low Junior College and then decided to transfer at George Washington University. Auerbach had coached the Washington Capitols in two division titles in the years 1947 and 1949. It was in the 1950 season when he had coached the Tri-Cities Blackhawks. Before he returned to the NBA, he became an assistant coach at Duke University. In the next season, Auerbach coached the Boston Celtics. In his 20 years as a coach, he was able to win 938 regular season games. It was in 1965 when he was hailed as the NBA Coach of the Year. As a coach, Auerbach's obsession was with winning. He remained as the Celtics' general manager even if he stepped back from being the team's coach. Auerbach was then inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in the year 1969. He had won the NBA Executive of the Year Award during the 1979-1980 season. Auerbach was also considered to e the greatest coach in the history of the NBA by the Professional Basketball Writers Association of America in the year 1980.
