Phillip Anthony Roof is a retired professional baseball player in the Major League Baseball. Born in Paducah, Kentucky, Roof threw and batted right- handed. He attended St. Mary's High School and was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Milwaukee Braves in 1959. Roof's first game was on April 29, 1961 in a game loss to the San Francisco Giants. In October 14, 1964, he was sent to the California Angels for Dan Osinski . A year later, he was traded to the Cleveland Indians. By December 1965, Roof was traded off to the Kansas City Athletics and then to the Milwaukee Brewers in 1970. By July 1971, he was sent to the Minnesota Twins for Paul Ratliff. He then spent some time playing for the Chicago White Sox after which he played for the Toronto Blue Jays. He was later released by the Blue Jays in 1977. He last appeared as a player in a game on May 30, 1977 against the Kansas City Royals which the Blue Jays lost. Upon retirement, he worked as bullpen coach for the San Diego Padres, Seattle Mariners, and Chicago Cubs. He also worked as manager to the Minnesota Twins before finally retiring from baseball in 2005. All in all, Roof had a .215 batting average, with 43 home runs and 210 runs batted in.
