Nene Hilario, born Maybyner Rodney Hilario, is a professional basketball player who hails from Sao Carlos, Brazil. His nickname Nene is a Brazilian Portugese term for baby, and he was called so because he is the youngest in his family. He started gaining interest in basketball at the age of 14. He played for the Brazilian National team in the Goodwill Games in 2001 and for the Vasco de Gama, a Brazilian Club. He entered the National Basketball Association after being drafted by the New York Knicks in 2002. He was a seventh overall pick in the said draft and was right away traded to the Denver Nuggets. He became a starter in the 2002-2003 season after starting it on the bench and posted an average of 10.5 points per game and 6.1 rebounds per game. He had 1.6 steals per game and belonged to the top ten players in the league in shooting percentage. He was included to the NBA All-Rookie first team. He obtained a right knee injury in game on November 1, 2005. He was found to have a torn right knee meniscus and a sprained medial collateral ligament.
