He was drafted by the Quebec Nordiques in the 1994 NHL Draft where he was the 87th overall pick. Before pursuing his NHL career, he played for the HC Pardubice in the 1993-1994 seasons and was awarded as the Rookie of the Year. He made 9 points and played 22 games. He had his 300th goal in the 2009-2009 seasons and became the team;s top scorer together with Ryan Smyth. He scored 59 goals and appeared in 82 games in all. He was included to the NHL All-Star Games thrice. He was aprt of the World team in the 2000 All-Star Game and was the only Avalanche player in the 57th All-Star Game.
