Born in Vyskov, Czechoslovakia, Michael Grosek is a retired professional ice hockey player. He was a right winger for the National Hockey League for a total of eleven seasons. He played in the NHL from 1993 all the way to 2004. Prior to participating in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft, Grosek played for the Zlin ZPS AC while still in Czechoslovakia. During the 1993 NHL Entry Draft, Grosek was selected by the Winnipeg Jets as the 145th pick of the draft. Grosek made history because he was the first Czech to be signed to team. While with the Jets, Grosek played back and forth in the NHL and in the minors. However, his best seasons in the NHL when he was acquired by the Buffalo Sabres in 1996. With the Sabres, Grosek was able to excel in goaltending and in being a defensive player. In 1998, Grosek was able to come up with 50 points which propelled the Sabres to the finals. In 1999, Grosek was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks and then to the New York Rangers by the end of that season.
