Martin Havlat is a National Hockey League player who was born on April 19, 1981 in Czechoslovakia. He formerly played for the Czech Extralgia and was drafted by the Ottawa Senators to play in the National Hockey League. He was a 26th overall pick in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. He began playing in the NHL in the 2000-2001 seasons after staying for one year in Czech Republic. In his initial year in the league, he made 19 goals and scored 42 points. He was named as a finalist for the Calder Trophy which is given for top performing rookie in the league. Reviews say he was known for his speed and his jersey number 9, thus earning the name “Mach 9”. Aside from the senators, he also played for the Chicago Blackhawks which changed his jersey number to 24. He continued to impress the hockey fans with his amazing plays and so he was included in the 2007 All-Star Game. He was traded to the Minnesota Wild on July 1, 2009. He is also an alternate captain of the team.
