Born on May 28, 1955 in Detroit, Michigan, Mark Steven Howe is a retired National Hockey League player who served as a defenseman for a number NHL teams. Son of Gordie Howe who is also a hockey star, he started playing in the junior hockey for the Detroit Red Wings. At 15 years, he helped the team reach the US Junior Championship in 1971 and played for the silver medalist United States team in the 1972 Olympics. He played for the Toronto Marlboros in the Ontario Hockey League where he bagged a Memorial Cup Most Valuable Player award. He joined the World Hockey Association in 1972 together with his brother, Marty Howe. He won the Lou Kaplan Award and played as a representative of his father's country in the 1974 Summit Series. He became a full defenseman in the 1976 to 1977 season. He was also awarded the Norris Trophy for three times because of his great contributions to the Philadelphia Flyers defensive line. According to many reviews, he had his finest season in 1985 to 1986 seasons when he scored 26 goals and scored 82 points. He went to free agency in the 1991 to 1992 season and signed with the Detroit Red Wings with which he achieved another Stanley Cup.
