Marcel Hossa is a Kontinental Hockey League player who previously appeared in the National Hockey League. Born on October 12, 1981 Czechoslovakia, he was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens as a 16th overall pick in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. Before having his professional playing career, he played junior hockey in HC Dukla Trecin and for the Western Hockey League team Portland Winterhawks. While in the Winterhawks, he led the team in scoring and became a great help for the team's battle in the WHL 2000-2001 Finals. His first professional team was the Quebec Citadelles of the American Hockey League. Hossa played in the 2003 NHL Young Stars Game but unfortunately, wasn't able to play full time for the Montreal Canadiens. He joined the Mora IK, a Swedish team in September 2004. He returned to play in the National Hockey League for the 2005-2006 seasons and was traded to the New York Rangers. He appeared in 64 games for the Rangers in his first season with the team and was able to record 10 goals. He signed with the Kontinental Hockey League team Dinamo Riga on July 3, 2008 and led the team in goals with 22. He improved in the next season and led the team again with 35 goals. He was part of the Slovakian team which played in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. He currently plays for the Ak Bars Kazan of the KHL.
