Lou Groza was professional placekicker for the National Football League. He played for the Cleveland Browns the entire time that he played in the NFL. Born to Hungarian parents, Groza was born and raised in Martins Ferry, Ohio. He is the brother of NCAA player Alex Groza. Groza went to Ohio State University where he played football. He was drafted into the Army but later played for the All-America Football Conference after serving. He signed with the Cleveland Browns in 1946 until 1959. Groza was also known for being an offensive tackle aside from being a kicker. Throughout his career in the NFL, Groza was named into nine Pro Bowls and six All-NFL Games. He was the league leader for field goals in the following seasons: 1950, 1952-54 and 1957. During the 1954 season, Groza was the Sporting News' NFL Player of the Year. Groza retired for a short while after the 1959 season but later rejoined the Cleveland Browns in 1961; he retired for the last time in 1967. He was able to help the Browns get their 1950, 1954, 1955 and 1964 NFL Championship titles. Groza was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1974 and his jersey number, which was 9, was consequently retired by the Browns.
