Lorne Henning is a hockey official who also played in the National Hockey League who played center. Born on February 22, 1952 in Melfort, Saskatchewan, he played for nine years for the New York Islanders as a forward. He had an assist on goal made by Bobby Nystrom in one game on May 24, 1980. This assist made the Islanders win their first Stanley Cups and had three other in the next seasons. He became the New York Islanders assistant coach in the summer of 1980 but also appeared in nine games in the regular season and in one playoff game. He was the last winner of the Stanley Cup who is a player and a coach at the same time. He played his last player season in 1981 and focused on being the Islanders assistant coach. After working with the Islanders, he moved to the Minnesota North Stars as a head coach in the 1985 to 1986 seasons. In 1986, he was replaced by Glen Somnor and went back to work as an assistant coach for the New York Islanders. Later on, he became the head coach of the team replacing Al Arbour in the 1994 to 1995 seasons. However, he was replaced by Mike Milbury during the offseason. He also became the assistant coach for the Chicago Blackhawks and the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. At present, he is the Director of Player Personnel for the Vancouver Canucks with which he also serves as an Assistant General Manager.
