Lindy Cameron Ruff currently works as the head coach of the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League. He is from Warburg, Alberta, Canada and was born on February 17, 1960. Ruff was selected as the 32nd overall pick in the 2nd round of the 1979 NHL Entry Draft by the Buffalo Sabres. He also played for the New York Rangers and became famous for his good attitude and his tough playing style which he showed a sample of in a game against the New York Islanders. During his playing career, he played in a total of 691 games and had 105 goals, with 195 assists to total 300 points. He started his coaching career as an assistant coach for the Florida Panthers from 1993 to 1997, leading the Panthers in the 1996 Stanley Cup which they lost to the Colorado Avalanche. His first stint as a head coach was with the Buffalo Sabres which he brought to the Eastern Conference Finals in 1997 and then a Stanley Cup berth in 1999 which they lost to the Dallas Stars. In 2006, he won the Jack Adams Award for being the coach of the year in the NHL. He was also part of the staff that helped Team Canada win the gold medal in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
