A right-handed batter and thrower, he had an imposing senior career in his college baseball and was even named as National Player of the Year by the Collegiate Baseball. Greene was also selected as a member of the All-America First Team by Baseball America. Other recognitions he received in his senior year were the ACC Player of the Year award and the Dick Howser Trophy as well as the Rotary Smith Award.
