He entered the National Hockey League in 1984 during the 1984 National Hockey League Draft where he was picked by the Washington Capitals. He was a 17th overall pick and many believed that he had his finest seasons in the national league with this team. His brother, Derian Hatcher, is also a former hockey player who made his way in NHL. In his 17 seasons in NHL, he played for the Washington Capitals, the Carolina Hurricanes, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the New York Rangers and the Dallas Stars. He played in the league until 2001 and has appeared in 1, 157 games with 227 goals scored and made 450 assists. He had 1,392 penalty minutes in his entire career.
