Ken Venturi was an American professional golf player and golf broadcaster. He was born in San Francisco, California. It was in 1956 when Venturi first gained national attention as an amateur, he finished in the second place in that year's Masters Tournament after he led the first round. Venturi had been a pupil of the great Byron Nelson during the early part of the 1050s, and was also influenced by Ben Hogan, his playing partner. With this well tuning shared with his marvelous talent, Venturi became a regular victor during his early years on the PGA Tour after becoming professional at the later parts of 1956. Venturi once again came close to emerge victorious in the 1958 and 1960 Masters, after losing from Arnold Palmer . 1961 had been a bumpy part in Venturi's career when he suffered a minor injury after an automobile accident. This causes Venturi's swing, and thus his career, to slide. This sag lasted only until 1964 when began to play well again and among his achievements that year were 1964 PGA Player of the Year and 1964 Sportsman of the Year. Venturi reached the zenith of his comeback after winning the 36-hole final round in U.S. Open at Congressional Country Club. Venturi's career once again took another blow when he was diagnosed in later part of 1964 with carpal tunnel syndrome. Following several surgeries his condition was somehow reversed, however, he was never able to regain his past performance. After his retirement in 1967 Venturi served as a color commentator for CBS Sports until June 2002.
