Keith Barlow Hernandez is a retires professional baseball player who is known for his nickname “Mex”. Born on October 20, 1953, he was a former baseball player in Capuchino High School where he finished his high school education in 1971. He played college baseball in College of San Mateo and not long after was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1971 Major Baseball League Draft round 42. A left-handed batter and thrower, he appeared in several minor games where he made a batting average of .250 and performed remarkably in the major league. In 1982, he was part of the St. Louis Cardinals' victory in the World Series championship. His first Major League Baseball game was on August 30, 1974 for the Cardinals. He also played for the New York Mets for the 1983 to 1989 seasons and for the Cleveland Indians in 1990. As a first rated player, he was included in the All-Star selection five times, the first being in 1979. He was also part of two World Series Championship in 1982 and 1986 and is an eleven-time Gold Glove awardee. He bagged the Silver Slugger award twice, one in 1980 and the other in 1984. In 1979, he was the National League's Most Valuable Player. His last appearance in the Major League was on July 24, 1990 and posted a .296 batting average and 162 home runs in his entire playing career.
