Joshua Morgan Hancock was a former baseball player who was born on April 11, 1978 in Cleveland Mississippi. He attended Vestavia Hills High School in Alabama and entered the Major Baseball League in 1996. He was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers during round four of the Amateur draft but did not made a deal with the team. He opted to go to Auburn University in Alabama and was drafted once again by the Boston Red Sox in the amateur draft of 1998. His first Major League Baseball appearance was on September 10, 2002. After three months, he moved to the Philadelphia Phillies. In 2004, he joined the Cincinnati Reds via trade in exchange for two players. He was a stupendous pitcher for the team and continued his great plays in 2006 when he became a Cardinal. With the St. Louis Cardinals, he had his best season with a 4.09 earned run average and was part of the 2006 World Series roster of the team. His final Major League Baseball game was on April 28, 2007 for the Cardinals. In his entire playing career, he made 110 strikeouts and an earned run average of 4.20 with a 9-7 win-loss record. Hancock died on April 29, 2007 in a car crash involving a bed tow truck. His teammates in St. Louis Cardinals mourned for the second active player of their team who left them unexpectedly, the first was Darryl Kile who died in 2002.
