John Paxon is a former professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association. Presently, Paxon is serving as the Chicago Bulls' Vice President of Basketball Operations. Paxon went to Archbishop Alter High School in Ohio and was a basketball star in his former high school. Paxon is the younger brother of Jim Paxon who played for the Portland Trail Blazers. John was selected into the 1979 McDonald's All-American Team. Paxon decided to attend the University of Notre Dame. During his second year in high school, Paxon was able to lead the team in assists with 138 assists for that season. During his third year, Paxon was named as an All-American. He graduated from Notre Dame with a 12.2 point-per-game average. Paxon was able to enter the 1983 NBA draft and was selected by the San Antonio Spurs during the first round of the draft. After playing for two seasons for the Spurs, Paxon signed with the Chicago Bulls and played with Michael Jordan. During the 1993 NBA finals, Paxon was able to make the winning shot during the sixth game of the finals. Paxon tried his hand at coaching and was served as assistant coach for the Bulls after he retired for just one season before resigning.
