John J. Havlicek was born on April 8, 1940 in Martins Ferry, Ohio. He is a former National Basketball Association player who was part of the Boston Celtics for sixteen seasons. He played collegiate basketball at Ohio State University where he became teammates with Jerry Lucas. Listed at 6 ft. 5 in., their team bagged the 1990 NCAA title and Havlicek was included to the 1960 United States Olympic Games team. Reviews say Havlicek is regarded as one of the finest players in the history of NBA because of his superb defense. He started his NBA career in 1962 when he was drafted by the Boston Celtics. However, he was also drafted by the NFL team Cleveland Browns and so he spent a year playing as the team's wide receiver in its training camp. He played for the Celtics in 1962 after the training camp and stayed with the team for the rest of his NBA career.
