Joey Giardello was a professional boxer in the 1950s to the 1960s.His real name is Carmine Orlando Tilelli but was more popular with his pseudonym of Joey Giardello. Although he was born in Brooklyn, New York, Giardello grew up near South Philadelphia. During his youth, a number of Italian-American young men became interested in boxing. Giardello was not an exception. His professional debut came in 1950. Although he was able to come up with an 18-0-1 record, Giardello met his first defeat after being matched up with Joe DiMartino. Learning from his defeat, Giardello started to fight middleweight boxers in 1951. One of Giardello's memorable fights was against Billy Graham. The famous fight is dubbed as “The reversed reversal” after the fight was decided in favor for Graham initially, and then reversed to favor Giardello and then reversed again to favor Graham. In 1960, Giardello was able to go against Gene Fullmer for the National Boxing Association middleweight title. The fight was a draw. After defeating Henry Hank in 1962, the match was named as the Ring Magazine's Fight of the Year. One of this biggest wins was against Sugar Ray Robinson in 1963.
