James Thomas Anthony Valvano, better known as Jim Valvano, was born on March 10, 1946 in Corona, New York. He was given the nick name Jimmy V and he was a former college basketball coach. He served as the head coach of the North Carolina State University and he was able to led the team to win the 1983 NCAA Basketball Tournament. He was known for his inspiring speech in the 1993 ESPY Awards. He started playing basketball when he was in college at the Rutgers University as a point guard. He was partnered with Bob Lloyd and together, they led the team to finish as third place in the 1967 NIT. He was named as the Senior Athlete of the year of Rutgers in the year 1967and he graduated in the same year with a English degree. As a head coach, he worked with the NC State for ten years. He led them led the team in the ACC Tournament Champions and in the ACC regular season Championship. The Wolfpack, a team that he also coached, won the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship in the year 1983. In the championship game of the Wolfpack, he made his famous moment of running up and down the court and looking for somebody to hug.
