Jeff Hostetler is a retired professional football player in the National Football League. While in the leage, Hostetler was known as the “Hoss-Piece”. Playing as a quarterback, Hostetler played for the New York Giants, the Los Angeles/ Oakland Raiders, and the Washington Redskins. Born in Hollsopple, Pennsylvania, Hostetler decided to play for Penn State and was able to play in a couple of games for the Penn State. After he the starting quarterback job was given to Todd Blackledge, Hostetler decided to transfer to West Virginia. Hostetler was named as Sports Illustrated Offensive Player of the Year and was able to play in the 1982 Gator Bowl. He also played in the 1983 Hall of Fame Bowl and the 1984 Hula Bowl. Drafted by the Giants in the third round of the 1984 NFL draft, Hostetler was able to play as a starter after Phil Simms attained an injury after playing against the Buffalo Bills. This allowed Hostetler to play in the Super Bowl XXV wherein his performance as a QB was ranked # 30 in the entire Super Bowl history. Hostetler made a Pro Bowl appearance during the 2004 season while playing for the Oakland Raiders and announced his retirement in 1998.
