Harry Gallatin is a retired professional basketball player who appeared in the National Basketball Association from 1948 to 1958. He also served as coach to the St. Louis Hawks and was even named as the NBA's Coach of the Year during his first year of coaching. He also served as coach for the New York Knicks in 1964 to 1966. Gallatin went to the then Northeast Missouri State Teacher's College and was the first pick of the New York Knicks during the 1948 NBA Draft. He was named into his first All-Star game in 1951 and would continue to play in the All-Star until 1957. He was able to play for the New York Knicks for a total of nine seasons. In 1952, he was able to make a total of 33 rebounds in a game against the Detroit Pistons. It was in 1954 when he would be able to perform his best with 15.3 rpg. He was traded to the Detroit Pistons in 1957 and went on to play with the team for only one season. Gallatin was named into the first team of the All-NBA in 1954 and the second in 1955. Gallatin; The Horse, Farmer) played Forward-Center from 1949 until 1958 for the New York Knickerbockers and Detroit Pistons. Gallatin also dished out 1208 assists (1.8 apg), made steals (0.0 spg), and blocked shots (0.0 bpg) during his career. Born in Roxana, Illinois on April 26, 1927, Gallatin stands 6-6 and weighs 210 lbs. He attended high school at Roxana in Roxana, Illinois and college at Truman State University. He was drafted by the New York Knickerbockers in the 1948 BAA draft. He was inducted into Hall of Fame as Player in 1991.
