Hal Woodeshick is a former American pro baseball athlete who pitched for numerous Major League Baseball teams throughout his twelve-season pro career. Woodeshick batted with his right and threw with his left and played for the Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Indians, Washington Senators, Houston Colt .45s and the St. Louis Cardinals . He was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Woodeshick, who goes by the nickname of “The Switchman,” started his pro career in baseball after he was signed by the Philadelphia Phillies in 1950 as amateur free agent. He was, however, not able to made his MLB appearance with the Phillies and instead, he spent some years playing in the Phillies minor league affiliates such as Carbondale Pioneers of the Phillies' North Atlantic League team. During the 1951 season, Woodeshick split his time with a pair of free minor league clubs; the Oil City A's of the Middle Atlantic League and the Duluth Dukes of the Northern League. Woodeshick was then sent to the New York Giants in the 1952 seasons before he was acquired by the Detroit Tigers on November 1955 and made his debut a year after on September 14, 1956. After which, he joined several other teams in the majors before having his final game on September 4, 1967 for the Cardinals. Hal Woodeshick passed away on June 14, 2009 in Houston, Texas.
