Hal Greer is a retired professional basketball player who appeared in the NBA from 1958 to 1973. He attended Marshall University and after a successful college basketball career, Greer was drafted by the Syracuse Nationals in the NBA during the 1958 NBA Draft. He made his debut in the NBA for Syracuse. While playing for Marshall University, Greer was able to get to the All-Conference in 1957 and in 1958, and was named as an MVP during the latter. Also in 1958, he was named as an All-American Honorable Mention. Notably, Greer is the first black student to receive an athletic scholarship in Marshall University. By the time that he graduated, he posted an average of 19.4 ppg and 10.8 rpg. Greer played with the Nationals for a total of five seasons. By the time that he signed with the Philadelphia 76ers, Greer posted a 22.8 ppg average. With that stat, he was able to help Philadelphia clinch the NBA Championship in 1967. He was named into 10 back to back All-Star Games and became the MVP in the 1968 game. In 1996, Greer was named into the NBA 50th Anniversary Team.
