Known all the time with his “Mr. Goalie” nickname, Glenn Hall formerly played in the NHL as a professional hockey player. He was a goaltender, just like what his nickname suggests, and he played for the Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Black Hawks and the St. Louis Blues while in the NHL. Hall is remembered for appearing in a huge number of games and his excellent play. Hockey scholars also give him the credit of being the person who was able to invent the butterfly-style goalkeeping. He was playing in the juniors when he was signed by the Detroit Red Wings. He played for the Red Wing's minor affiliates but was able to appear in his first ever NHL game after he was called up in the 1952 playoffs for the purpose of being a backup goalie. He was placed in the Stanley Cup after the team won that year despite the fact that Hall didn't play in any game. In 1955, Hall was finally able to earn a starting position and he picked up the Calder Memorial Trophy for his first full year in the league. He was traded to the Chicago Black Hawks towards the end of his second full season with Detroit. He helped Chicago win their 1961 Stanley Cup.
