He played collegiate basketball at two universities, the Kilgore College and the University of Nevada in Las Vegas. In UNLV, he played under Coach Jerry Tarkanian. He started his professional career in 1988 after the National Basketball Association Draft of 1988 wherein he was picked by the Boston Celtics in the third round; and Paddio became a 74th overall pick.
