Gary Roberts is a former National Hockey League player who hails from North York, Ontario. Before he had his debut in the National Hockey League, he played in a few minor leagues like the Ontario Hockey League where he earned a Memorial Cup. He began his career in NHL with the Calgary Flames which drafted him in the 1984 National Hockey League draft. He spent his first few seasons as a pro with the Flames. He was part of the team's success in the Stanley Cup in 1989. He also received the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy in 1995 for his determination and perseverance in the sport. After suffering a severe neck injury in 1994 season, he had his comeback in 1998 with the Carolina Hurricanes where he spent three seasons. Before he ended his professional career, he had a stint with the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Florida Panthers . He also became part of the Pittsburgh Penguins and played for the Tampa Bay Lightning. In 1993 and in 2004, he had the chance to play in the National Hockey League All-Star Game. In his entire NHL career, he appeared in 1, 224 games and started 438 of these games. Over 21 seasons, he played 1224 games, scored 438 goals, and made 472 assists. Born in North York, Ontario on May 23, 1966, Roberts stands 6-2 and weighs 215 lbs. He was drafted by the Calgary Flames in the 1st round (12th overall) of the 1984 NHL Entry Draft. Roberts officially announced retirement on March 10, 2009.
