Gary Payton is a retired professional basketball player. Payton, also named as “The Glove”, was known for being a good defensive player. Payton played for a total of thirteen seasons for the Seattle SuperSonics but also played for the Milwaukee Bucks, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Boston Celtics, and the Miami Heat in the NBA. Payton is a native of Oakland, California and went to Skyline High School. He was with Greg Foster in the high school basketball team. Payton decided to attend Oregon State University and was named as the best college basketball player by Sports Illustrated that put him on the cover of the magazine in March 1990. Payton was an All-American, and was selected as an All-Pac-10 for three instances. During the 1990 draft, Payton was selected by the Seattle SuperSonics and was with the team for more than a decade. Although Payton was not excelling during his first two seasons in the NBA, he was able to emerge as one of the best point guards in the NBA. Payton was named into nine All-Star selections as well as into All-NBA teams. Payton was also selected into the NBA All-Defensive Team for nine instances.
