Frank John Viola, Jr. born on April19, 1960 in East Meadow, New York, is a former starting pitcher in Major League Baseball. He played for the Minnesota Twins in 1982-1989, New York Mets in 1989-91, Boston Red Sox in 1992-94, Cincinnati Reds in 1995 and Toronto Blue Rays in 1996. Frank Viola has a nickname of “Sweet Music” and during his early years, he attended at East Meadow High School in New York and played for the baseball team. Before he was drafted in the 2nd round of MLB by the Twins in 1981, he went to college at St. John's University. According to many research, he made his debut in the majors when he came in Minnesota Twins on June 6, 1982. His most impressive achievement is his Cy Young Award which he won on a career high 24 games in 1988. He wasn't having a strong year when he was traded to the New York Mets in 1989. He became more productive in his last season with the Mets. Viola made the All-Star Game in the first half-season in 1991. He signed a contract with the Boston Red Sox in 1992 and joined a spring training game after a year. After his successful career in playing, he decided to retire. In retirement, he had coached baseball for Lake Highland Preparatory School on Orlando, Florida. He is also assisting the 2009 Cleveland Indians as a coach in spring training. He is now a part-time booth announcer for the Boston Red Sox international sports channel.
