An Olympic Games gold medalist, Floyd Patterson was a famous professional boxing athlete who was born on January 4, 1935 in Carolina. Having stayed in the Wiltwyck School for Boys for not less than two years, he was known to have a major turn in his life after a dark past in Brooklyn. He started his boxing career when he was just 14 and had his very first win in the Helsinki Olympics in 1952, where he defeated a number of players like Omar Tebakka and Vassile Tita. That year also, he was named as the National Amateur Middleweight Champion. His very first professional fight came on June 7, 1954 against Joey Maxim, who is a light heavyweight champion. From then on, he has achieved a lot of lightweight wins although his coach had been preparing him for the heavyweight title. Patterson became successful in the light heavyweight endeavor and established the record of being the youngest champion in the heavyweight category in the history of boxing. He was able to defeat Archie Moore at the age of 21 years. He ended his professional boxing career at the age of 37 and worked for the New York State Athletic Commission after retirement. He was inducted to the International Boxing Hall of Fame in honor of his great performances and contributions in the chosen field.
