Fern Flaman was a professional hockey player who played for such teams as the Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs. He was known for being a rather aggressive player and bodychecker. He started playing professionally after he was picked by the Bruins during the 1943 NHL Draft. He spent the next four seasons playing for the Boston Olympics in the minor leagues. He was able to get into the Eastern Hockey League's First All-Star Team in 1945 and 1946. Flaman made his NHL debut in 1947 under the Boston Bruins. He stayed with the Bruins for five seasons before being traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 19561. The Maple Leafs would go on to win the Stanley Cup in that year. Flaman stayed with the Maple Leafs for another three seasons before being traded back to the Boston Bruins in 1954. In that year, Flaman had 150 penalty minutes which no other player surpassed for that season. Flaman's second stint with the Bruins would prove to be very fruitful. He was named team captain in 1955, a position that he held until his retirement. He was also named into the 1955, 1957 and 1958 NHL Second All-Star Teams and participated in five All-Star Games.
