Born on June 6, 1939 in Sudbury, Ontario, Eddie Giacomin was a Canadian Professional ice hockey goaltender. He had played for the New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League and had also played for the Providence Reds to the American Hockey League. He had starred for the Reds for five full powerful seasons. It was then the time where the NHL teams became interested with Giacomin. Detroit and the New York Rangers expressed the most interest for him. Giacomin was then traded to the Rangers for the starting goaltender Marcel Paille. He showed a good performance in his first month with the Rangers and had improved in the following season where he led the NHL in shutouts and backstopping the Rangers to their second playoff tie up in nine seasons leading to the recognition of Eddie Giacomin autographed Rangers puck. His effectiveness in the sport reduced in 1975 due to some injuries. When he was waived to the Red Wings in October 1975, many fans did not agree and they were really angry to the Rangers. He then retired on January 17, 1978. After his retirement, he gad spent the 1979 season as a broadcaster for the New York Islanders. He then became the Islanders' and the Red Wings' assistant coach and had two stints with the Rangers as a goaltending coach.
