He played for the Pirates from 1977 - 1979, Giants from 1979 - 1981, Indians in 1982, Padres from 1983 - 1991 and Yankees from 1985 - 1986. Over 15 seasons, he started 333 games, won 126 games, struck out 1266 batters, and had a 3.79 ERA. Born on May 19, 1955 in Johnson City, TN, Whitson stands 6' 3 and weighs 195 lb. He attended Unicoi County (Erwin, TN) high school and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 6th round of the 1974 amateur draft. His debut was on September 4, 1977 and he played his final game on September 29, 1991. Over his career, Whitson made $6,900,000.
