He hails from St. Rose, Louisiana and graduated from Destrehan High School where he first showcased his football skills. He was included in an All-State team for his impressive performances as a defensive back. He ended up his last season as player in the said high school with 83 tackles and 12 deflected passes. He continued to show his football prowess in University of Miami as a defensive player for the team. He was part of the school's victory in the National Championship in the 2001 season. He was named to the All-American team three times and had established records in stats including nine receptions and 3 touchdowns in the 2001 season. His professional career started in the 2002 season after he was chosen by the Baltimore Ravens . He was a first round selection of the team in the National Football League draft in 2002. He became a starter during his first season as a pro and logged 85 tackles with five interceptions. He was included in the Pro Bowl in his second year as a rookie. He was also awarded as the Defensive Player of the Year in NFL in the 2004 season. As of the moment, he holds the record for most number of career interceptions with 46. He logged 13 touchdowns in his career in NFL and made 7 interception returns.
