About Doug Bird: Doug Bird (full name: James Douglas Bird; no nicknames) played pitcher from 1973 until 1983 for the Kansas City Royals, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox. He played for the Royals from 1973 - 1978, Phillies in 1979, Yankees from 1980 - 1981, Cubs from 1981 - 1982 and Red Sox in 1983. Over 11 seasons, he started 100 games, won 73 games, struck out 680 batters, and had a 3.99 ERA. Born on March 5, 1950 in Corona, CA, Bird stands 6' 4 and weighs 180 lb. He attended Pomona (Pomona, CA) high school and was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 3rd round of the 1969 amateur draft (June Secondary).
