Dan Wheeler is an American pro baseball player currently playing relief pitcher for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays of the Major League Baseball. He batted and threw with his right and pitched for other teams in the majors such as the New York Mets and the Houston Astros . Wheeler was born in Providence, Rhode Island and graduated from Pilgrim High School in Warwick where he also played high school baseball and took his higher studies at Central Arizona Junior College. Wheeler started his pro baseball career in the major leagues when he was originally drafted in the thirty fourth round by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays during the 1996 amateur draft and made his debut on September 1, 1999. After playing for three seasons with the Devil Rays, Wheeler joined the New York Mets in 2003 before joining the Houston Astros in 2004 where he played for four seasons. On October 2005, Wheeler recorded the last out at Busch Memorial Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri during the National League Championship Series. Wheeler also played in the 2006 World Baseball Classic in the offseason for Team USA. After his four season career with the Astros,, Wheeler was traded back to the Devil Rays On July 2007 in exchange for Ty Wigginton .
