He was also the host of ABC's The American Sportsman which runned on TV for a long time. He worked for all ABC-televised Olympics except the winter Olympic Games in 1988. He produced and hosted The Way It Was in 1970's for PBS. He likewise served as a commentator for HBO's Inside the NFL. A multi-awarded sports broadcaster and a hall of famer for different sports, he lost his fight against leukemia and at the age of 86, he passed away.
