Clinton Merrick Hurdle was born on July 30, 1957 in Big Rapids, Michigan. He is a former Major League Baseball outfielder for a few teams in the league. A graduate of the Merritt High School, he began playing professionally in 1975. He was drafted by the Kansas City Royals as the 9th pick in the first round of the Major League Baseball amateur draft. His first Major League Baseball appearance was on September 18, 1977. He played regularly for the Royals from 1977 to 1981. On December 1981, he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds and spent the 1982 season with the team. He signed with the New York Mets for the 1983 and the 1985 season and with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1986. He was then traded to the New York Mets with which he played his last Major League Baseball game on June 26, 1987. He ended his professional playing career with .259 batting average, scored 32 home runs and made 193 runs batted in. He was featured in the covers of Sports Illustrated in 1987. Aside from the Major League Baseball, he also appeared in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League for three varied seasons. He made leading statistics in the said league.
