Chris Gomez is a retired professional baseball player. He appeared in the Major League Baseball from 1993 to 2008. Born and raised in California, Gomez attended Lakewood High School and then Loyola Marymount University. In 1992, he transferred to California State University in Long Beach where he played college baseball. He was named into the All-America Team while in Long Beach State. During the 1989 Amateur Draft, Gomez was picked by the California Angels during the 37th round of the draft but Gomez refused to sign with California. It wasn't until the 1992 Amateur Draft when Gomez was drafted by the Detroit Tigers. Gomez was able to make his MLB debut in 1993 during a game against the Minnesota Twins. During a July game against the Kansas City Royals, Gomez was able to hit a triple which was also his first hit. In 1994, Gomez was able to play for a full season and was named into the Topps All-Rookie team. By the end of that season, he was able to post a .346 batting average and hit 5 homers. In 1996, Gomez was traded to the Padres and was part of the Padres team that clinched the National League championship title.
