Born on December 26, 1948 in Dayton, Ohio, Chris Chambliss was a Major League Baseball player of the Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees, and Atlanta Braves. His real name is Caroll Christopher Chambliss. It was in 1970 when he was chosen by the Cleveland Indians during the first round of the free-agent draft. He was hailed as the American League Rookie of the Year in 1971. He played first base and was well-known as a great clutch hitter all throughout his career. He got his only selection to the All-Star team in 1976. He became the hitting star of the 1976 American League Championship Series. Chambliss also hit a two-run homer in Game 3 to help the Yankees bag that game 5 to 3. He had successfully hit an ALCS record .524 with two amazing home runs and 8 runs batted in. When he played three more seasons with the Yankees, he won a Gold Glove for fielding prowess in 1978. He became the manager for the AA London Tigers of the Eastern League- an affiliate of the Detroit Tigers in 1989. The team had won the Eastern League title playing out of Labatt Park in 1990. Chambliss also became the hitting coach of the Yankees. Recently, he was the hitting coach of the Cincinnati Reds and he was fired on October 11, 2006.
