Carl Willey is a former American professional baseball athlete who hails from Cherryfield, Maine and graduated from Cherryfield High School. Willey batted and threw with his right. During his pro career, Willey spent eight seasons in the Major League Baseball and pitched for two teams; The Milwaukee Braves and the New York Mets . Willey began his pro baseball career after he was originally signed by the Boston Braves in 1951 as amateur free agent. However, Willey was not able to make his pro debut in the majors; instead he spent some time with the Braves' affiliates in the minor leagues. But during the 1958 season, Willey was lucky enough to be called up by Milwaukee where he made his pro debut on April 30, 1958 and was named TSN Rookie of the Year that season. Willey pitched for five seasons for Milwaukee, until on March 23, 1963 when he was purchased by the New York Mets from the Milwaukee Braves where he spent his remaining three seasons. He had his final game on September 25, 1965 Carl Willey passed away on July 21, 2009 in his home in Ellsworth, Maine.
